The central message from Fabric Conference 2025 is clear: Microsoft Fabric is now ready for production deployment.
- A significant number of preview features graduated to General Availability (GA), alongside announcements of new preview features that further expand the platform’s scope.
- The pace of maturity indicates Fabric is evolving rapidly from a proof-of-concept (POC) solution into a production-ready, enterprise-grade platform.
- Clients can now confidently plan migrations and begin realizing the benefits of a unified data platform across storage, analytics, AI, and governance.
Data Ingestion – Key Announcements
- Pipelines Dataflow Pipeline is now simply called Pipeline. New Copy Activity introduced for efficient data movement. Invoke Pipeline Activity (GA): trigger other pipelines for modular design and reuse. Pipeline activity supports Service Principal Name (GA).
- Integrations Airflow Workflow Integration for orchestration. Teams & Outlook email activities (GA): streamline communication directly within pipelines.
- Functions & Automation Fabric Functions + Function Activity (GA): embed and run reusable logic in pipelines. Dynamic content expression with Copilot: accelerate pipeline authoring using AI assistance.
- Monitoring & Reliability Enhanced Pipeline Monitoring: now integrated with workspace-level monitoring for real-time performance and reliability insights.
Development & CI/CD
- Fabric CLI is now open source.
- Fabric CI/CD library open sourced – enables end-to-end DevOps integration.
- All Fabric artefacts are fully supported with CI/CD.
- Variable Library introduced – simplifies deployment workflows.
Data & Storage
- One Lake storage for all data types (SQL databases, data warehouses, structured & unstructured files).
- Materialized Views (MLV) now generally available with incremental refresh support.
- Warehouse Migration Assistant GA – automatically migrates schemas & data into Fabric Data Warehouse with AI-based error fixing.
- Graphs Database Service launched with a visual UX for graph queries (cards & tables).
- Translytical Task Flows in public preview – blend transactional + analytical data; enables read/write back via Power BI.
Runtime & Performance
- Microsoft Fabric Runtime 1.3 GA, includes: Apache Spark 3.5 OS: Mariner 2.0 Java 11, Scala 2.12.17, Python 3.11, R 4.4.1 Delta Lake 3.2
AI & Intelligence
- AI functions embedded in Data Wrangler tool.
- Anomaly Detector powered by real-time intelligence using your data.
- Data Agents (preview) – conversational AI experiences to query across lakehouses, warehouses, Power BI semantic models, KQL databases.
Extensibility & Customization
- User Data Functions extended – host custom logic, algorithms, and libraries across Fabric items & data sources.
- Fabric Extensibility Toolkit – build & integrate custom capabilities that feel native to Fabric.
Developer Experience
- Last but not least, new UX with improved tabs & colors – solves developer struggle with multiple tabs.
