Informatica Cloud Data Governance and Catalog

Cloud service for data cataloguing, governance and data quality within Informatica's data management cloud.

Overview

Informatica Cloud Data Governance and Catalog combines governance, cataloguing and data quality in one service of Informatica's wider data management cloud, rather than as a standalone purchase.

Ownership changed materially and any older description is wrong: Salesforce completed its acquisition of Informatica in November 2025, and its own site now brands itself Informatica from Salesforce.

Scope is source-agnostic and explicitly hybrid, scanning cloud lakes and warehouses, BI systems, databases, ETL tools and other enterprise systems rather than favouring one platform.

It is the most metadata-forward of the governance platforms. It inspects scripts, procedures and processes, parsing SQL dialects and stored procedures to derive lineage others cannot see.

That produces its strongest published claim: complete column-level lineage, from business-friendly system summaries down to granular technical views derived from parsed code.

Inferred lineage is a genuinely useful wrinkle, deducing flow from observed patterns and dependencies where extraction cannot see every hop, so gaps do not simply break the graph.

Its AI engine drives the curation economics, with more than 215 out-of-the-box classifications and automatic glossary association that stewards review and accept rather than author from scratch.

A custom metadata framework ingests from plain Excel files, which sounds unglamorous but is the pragmatic answer for any system with no scanner, and no competitor here matches it.

Be clear about what it enforces. It enforces metadata access control across its own services with attribute-based rules; enforcement on the underlying data is a separate Informatica product rather than part of this one.

Pricing is consumption in processing units pre-paid annually across the whole cloud, which is flexible but means this service shares a pool with everything else you run there.

Key features and capabilities

The same headings are used for every governance & stewardship entry, so two tools can be read side by side.

What it catalogues
  • Catalogues structured, semi-structured and unstructured data plus AI models and assets
  • Cloud sources include Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse, Fabric and SAP Datasphere in preview
  • On-premises sources include Oracle, Db2, Netezza, SQL Server, Teradata, SAP HANA and MongoDB
  • BI and ETL coverage spans Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Cognos, Looker, Data Factory, SSIS, Talend and DataStage
  • A custom metadata framework ingests from plain Excel files for systems with no scanner at all
Ownership and stewardship
  • Attribute-based metadata access control, with asset-specific roles enforced across its own services
  • Informatica frames this as federating governance so business domains hold greater authority over their data
  • Owners and subject-matter experts can certify datasets, with consumer ratings, reviews and a question platform
  • Bulk curation, crowdsourced tags and annotations, with detailed change history per asset
  • Data products are handled by a separate marketplace service that this one integrates with
Glossary, policy and classification
  • Business glossary creation with policy hierarchies and published terms of use for consumption
  • The AI engine automatically associates glossary terms with data and infers dataset relationships
  • More than 215 out-of-the-box classifications covering GDPR, personal, health and payment data
  • Recommended data policies can be assigned automatically to matching classifications
  • It enforces metadata access policies; enforcement on the data itself is a separate product
Lineage and impact
  • Complete column-level lineage, derived by parsing static and dynamic code
  • Views run from business-friendly system summaries to granular technical column paths
  • Inferred lineage deduces flow from observed patterns where extraction cannot see every step
  • Impact analysis upstream and downstream, with glossary terms and policies visualised in the lineage view
  • Data quality overlays show how quality scores change along the flow
Workflow and collaboration
  • Workflows automate review and approval of new and modified assets against organisational policy
  • Predefined workflows for common processes, plus custom multi-step workflows per asset type and role
  • Interactive dashboards monitor workflows, task completion and notifications with drill-down
  • Collaboration through comments, certification, ratings, custom attributes and annotations
  • Automated notification of data quality status changes by interface or email
Integrations
  • Its own stack is a first-class source, including PowerCenter, data integration and multidomain master data
  • Public APIs let stewards retrieve policies, rules and conventions programmatically
  • Integrated data quality with profiling, rules, scorecards and anomaly detection alongside metadata
  • A published scanner for Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks Unity Catalog as a supported source
  • Purchasable through the AWS, Azure and Google Cloud marketplaces
Where it runs and what it costs
  • Cloud-native software as a service, deployable into existing infrastructure quickly
  • Runtime can be serverless, or in your own data centre or private cloud through a secure agent
  • Regions and any sovereign or government cloud are not published
  • Priced in processing units consumed across the wider cloud rather than per catalogue asset
  • Its product documentation site refuses automated access, so specifics come from datasheets

Pricing

Usage-basedQuote only; consumption in processing units

Quote-only, with the model published but no numbers. You pre-pay processing units annually and spend them across any eligible service in Informatica's cloud, shifting usage without a new procurement round, with volume tiers promising the same or lower unit price as you scale and a flexible variant alongside. Administrators can cap per-user access, watch a usage dashboard and set threshold alerts. No per-unit rate or tier price is published in any currency, and the free integration offering and warehouse trial publish neither limits nor duration.

About Informatica, part of Salesforce

Informatica is now a consolidated subsidiary of Salesforce, which completed its acquisition on 18 November 2025 at $25.00 a share, valuing it at roughly $8bn in equity net of Salesforce's existing stake, following an agreement signed that May. Its corporate fact sheet now gives Salesforce Tower in San Francisco, and its own investor domain no longer resolves; its founding year and founders are no longer published on any first-party page. It reports more than 5,000 enterprise customers including over 80 of the Fortune 100. Salesforce says it will integrate the stack into Agentforce, so packaging may change.
