Vantage

Cloud cost management and FinOps platform covering cloud providers and data services.

Overview

Vantage is a cost platform for cloud, SaaS and AI spend, describing itself as the system of record for allocating and optimising it. Its scope is the bill, across 36 published integrations.

Be clear where it stops relative to the warehouse-specific tools. It ingests Snowflake and Databricks as billing line items; it does not tune warehouses, rewrite queries or optimise jobs.

Connection is read-only, through cross-account roles deployed by template on AWS with trimmed policies that exclude database and bucket access, and read-only service accounts elsewhere.

Its compliance posture is the strongest of the cost tools here, with both SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2, and single sign-on included even on the free tier.

The 2026 direction is AI spend, and it has moved fast: managed AI tags, token allocation for Bedrock and Cloudflare's AI gateway, usage budgets counting tokens, and an open token cost allocation specification it publishes itself.

Its FinOps agent identifies and remediates waste, working in the app or in Slack, defaulting to approval mode so you keep the final say, with everything logged to an audit trail.

Virtual tagging is its allocation mechanism and the only explicit showback claim among the cost tools here, alongside unit costs that express spend per customer, unit or transaction.

Autopilot for AWS Savings Plans is the commitment capability, automating purchases either outright or on approval. Note the boundary: it covers AWS Savings Plans only.

What sets it apart culturally is how much it gives away. A public instance price comparison tool, a billing code decoder, a free cloud cost handbook, an LLM model directory, quarterly cost reports and free training, all public.

One correction for anyone working from older notes: its pricing is fixed monthly rates banded by tracked spend, not a percentage of your cloud bill, starting free and running $30 and $200 a month before enterprise.

Key features and capabilities

The same headings are used for every cost & finops entry, so two tools can be read side by side.

What spend it covers
  • 36 published integrations across cloud, AI, SaaS, and data and infrastructure
  • Cloud covers AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, Cloudflare, DigitalOcean and Linode
  • AI covers Anthropic, OpenAI, Cursor, ElevenLabs, Modal, Baseten, Fireworks and others
  • Data and infrastructure covers Snowflake, Databricks, ClickHouse, Confluent, MongoDB, Redis and Kubernetes
  • Snowflake and Databricks are billing-level only, with no query, warehouse or job optimisation
Attribution and allocation
  • Virtual tagging for custom allocation and showback by team or service, with tagging hygiene tracking
  • Managed AI tags normalise AI costs across providers
  • Token allocation spreads LLM cost per request, backed by an open specification Vantage publishes
  • Unit costs express spend per customer, unit or transaction, with metric imports from BigQuery and ClickHouse
  • Invoicing for managed service providers automates generation, customisation and distribution
Finding savings
  • Automated waste detection scans the footprint and identifies what to cut
  • Autopilot for AWS Savings Plans automates commitment purchases, outright or on approval
  • The FinOps agent can remediate waste autonomously or in approval mode, logged to an audit trail
  • Kubernetes efficiency metrics, network cost visibility and a full asset inventory
  • No query tuning, warehouse configuration or code rewriting, by design
Budgets, forecasts and alerts
  • Cost and usage budgets over flexible periods in days, weeks, months or years
  • Usage budgets track quantities rather than dollars, such as tokens or instance hours
  • Forecasting extrapolates current pace across the period, shown as projected performance
  • Anomaly detection runs automatically on every cost report, with a configurable dollar threshold
  • Alerts to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Jira, though Slack and Teams are mutually exclusive
Reporting and sharing
  • Cost reports, resource reports, financial commitment reports, dashboards and folders
  • Canvas builds custom reports combining Vantage data with external metrics using natural language
  • Report notifications are the scheduled digest route to finance, with annotations for narrative
  • Data exports push cost data into Snowflake, Databricks or another system of record
  • Free public artefacts including an instance price comparison, a billing code decoder and a cost handbook
Integrations
  • 36 native providers plus custom providers for anything unlisted
  • Slack for notifications and agent chat, plus Microsoft Teams, Jira and email
  • A version 2 REST API with its own query language, client libraries for Go, Python and TypeScript, and OpenAPI specs
  • A Terraform provider for FinOps as code
  • An MCP server for ChatGPT and Claude, with connectors for Linear, Notion and GitHub
Where it runs and what it costs
  • Software as a service only, with no self-hosted or in-network option published
  • Read-only access through cross-account roles with trimmed policies, avoiding stored access keys
  • Revoking the role triggers automatic deletion of the associated data
  • SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2, with single sign-on on every tier including free
  • Hosting region and data residency options are not published

Pricing

SubscriptionFree tier; Pro at $30 a month

About Vantage

Vantage was founded in 2020 by Ben Schaechter and Brooke McKim and is based in New York City with 75 staff. It is private, having raised more than $25m in total, a $4m seed led by Andreessen Horowitz in June 2021 and a $21m Series A led by Scale Venture Partners in March 2023, with no round published since. Named customers include Square, FanDuel, Canva, Rippling and HelloFresh. In August 2026 it became a founding member of the Linux Foundation's Tokenomics Foundation. Note a name collision: a specialty insurer also called Vantage was acquired in 2025, which is a different company.
